Maths with Rooms 9 & 10
Maths in Room 10 is a joint venture with Room 9. We are also lucky enough to have Mr Brandon come in most days to take a group or two as well.
In maths we use flexible grouping which means that the groups change depending on what the needs are for different students at different times. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses in maths and this helps us to cater for this.
We are currently working on geometry and shape transformations

This is our artwork that was created by tracing a shape that we made up and then rotating it 90 degrees, 180 degrees and 270 degrees and retracing it at each step. We then coloured in all the overlapping areas to make it look great.
To help us understand some of the new concepts we created a TIP poster
T = Title
I = information
P = picture
Approaching something from a range of different contexts helps more people understand the concepts. These are some of our TIPs that helped us to get our heads around angles.

Problem solving
Problem solving is an important part of maths. It means that people who have different ways of solving things get the opportunity to explain their thinking and also to hear the thinking of others. This helps children who struggle with maths concepts hear and see a variety of approaches to maths and also helps students consolidate their understanding by explaining their ideas to others. Problem solving can also incorporate, physical, visual or number based problems.
In our problem solving the children all have roles to play so that they aren't left to do all the work or left out to just sit back and watch. As well as doing their set role, they are ALL problem solvers.
