Welcome to the student volunteer army!
Hey parents! This term we have been contributing to the Student Volunteer Army. The student volunteer army (SVA) is a group of kids helping others in need. The SVA was originally made to help the families in the Christchurch earthquake get back up on their feet, and so we decided to do projects around Wellington to help out. We were split into 2 platoons and we thought of 2 projects to do. Brooklyn’s army (platoon 1), are talking to the council about about their ideas here some they are thinking of doing... cleaning the big slab on Bell Road and decorating it with games, a fit path and making a mural at a Brooklyn bus stop. The Brooklyn beautifiers (platoon 2)are going down to Central Park on Monday the 11th of September to clean up the stream, and chilling with the elderly at the resource center on Friday the 15th of September. If you are interested in finding out more about what we're up to and how our projects turn out, check here for updates in the near future.
Our first project: The first project was cleaning central park. Max, a worker for friends of central park, told us the history of central park. He told us some really interesting things, like how the park is 114 years old, and that the tennis courts next door used to be a rubbish tip!
